Chet Faker - Archangel

When someone steps up to cover a genre classic such as Burial's Archangel, they better be prepared to deliver. And by deliver I mean they beter be complementarily shipping via fedex overnight insured, bubble wrapped in gold. So when I saw Chet Faker covered one of my all time favorite songs red flags of worry were starting to go off. I hit play with hesitation and thought to myself, "great, some dude with a beard singing 4 lines over a piano." SHIT WAS I WRONG! This is a climactic, wrenching, genre-crossing cover.

Ifan Dafydd - Celwydd

Youth Lagoon "Dropla"

Youth Lagoon, Mr. Trevor Powers, will release his second album "Wondrous Bughouse" on March 5th via Fat Possum Records. Stream the first single "Dropla" below. Upon first listen we are immediately reminded of 2011's "The Year of Hibernation" where we learned the kid can write emotive and very melodic music. This next album is on track to impress.

Grizzly Bear- 'Shields' Stream

I tend to refrain from sharing the obvious indie attention drains. However, I feel that Grizzly Bear's third LP 'Shields' might be the first legitimate thing that has come out this year from a band that composes tunes all the while playing "traditional" instruments. You can stream Shields at NPR. The whole thing is an epic and truly logical progression for the group. Immediate highlights are Yet Again and The Hunt.

Nicolas Jaar remixes Cat Power's 'Cherokee'

Another cut from Mr. Jaar... This time a remix of the first track off Cat Power's new album 'Sun.' It's a mellow and airy one, never quite striking the groove that one might expect from a Nicolas Jaar remix. However, he certainly adds some atmosphere to an otherwise seemingly overproduced Chan Marshall joint. Stream below:

SNAP! Here comes a bit of a perfect storm where talents combine to meet a satisfying potential. Azealia Banks can rap but shines with good production and Hudson Mowhawke can produce a foot stomping beat crying for a flow. Here is some harmony. The track is also co-produced by Nick Hook.
